After some days in Hannover, Germany I am now back from CeBit. There is a new project-blog at http://ajaxtorrent.wordpress.com/ and I am probably getting some help, which I really appreciate.

slow progress

Slowly but steady I am making progress. The current design is a homage to the TorrentFlux-project which inspired me. I hope you like it. More layouts and a fully working AJAX-driven interface soon!

Speaking of progress: The storage-bar and the torrent-status-bar are already working with AJAX. Which means no reloading of the full page to get up-to-date information on your system :-)

On my todo-list is a AJAX-fileupload as well as an rssreader, instant messenger and many more. Stay tuned!

CSS, Javascript and IE7

Better late than never I guess. Here is yesterdays update today ;-)

Working with AJAX isnt always as easy as it seems. Especially if you as untalented as me. Testing my stuff with Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 I had a strange effect. To make it short: IE7 did work with a cached version of the XML-file instead of reloading the XML-File (which I piped through a php-skript). The solution is a simple header() command, with an expire-date in the past and a "no-cache" parameter.

Good news: The themeable interface is almost done. First screenshots are avaible tonight or tomorrow - hopefully.

working on the client

Today I improved my btxmltornado.py Also I am still not satisfied 100 percent. But everything goes in the right direction. I am now reading the xml-file with the support of libxml2. That is important because the user needs to have a possibility to end the client early. On the console a simple [Ctrl]+[C] would do the trick. Now its a running-tag with a 0/1 value. 0 is equal to the keyboard interupt.

A small sidenote: Until today I had no clue how to write a python program. But I am learing now. And the first result is the improved status-file-driven bittornado. I am hyped :-)

Greetings fly out to ryaner who is working on on an ajaxed TorrentFlux as well. Maybe we can learn and profit from each other.

Project ajaxTorrentFlux begins

Hello and welcome to my blog. As of today I will report the status of my new project ajaxTorrentFlux here. At the moment there isnt much to see. But I will keep you posted.

What is ajaxTorrentFlux you ask? Well its a variation of the great TorrentFlux, which is a great webinterface to BitTornado.

"TorrentFlux is a FREE PHP based Torrent client that runs on a web server. Manage all of your Torrent downloads through a convenient web interface from anywhere."

Well there are some thing which I believe could be done better. Therefor I am going to write a new webinterface for BitTornado which is heavily inspired by TorrentFlux. ajaxTorrentFlux is going to rely on XML, Javascript, PHP and maybe some SQL-database (but I hope not). One thing I hope to achive is to bring more desktop-like feeling to the webinterface. Maybe a uTorrent/Azureus look&feel. And I hope to get lots of interaction with all sorts of different desktop-interface like the new Windows Vista Sidebar.

The screenshot shows the new XML-format my BitTornado-modification will use.
